Shaare Torah 2 – MDY Warriors 7
The MDY Warrior traveled northeast to play the Shaare Torah Stars. Our beloved teachers - Rabbi J. Mizrahi and his son and Rabbi M. Barnathan and Team Barnathan (who are Warrior season tickets holders) welcomed us. Rabbi Barnathan, already knowing school was cancelled tomorrow because of incoming snowstorm, announced “if you win – no school tomorrow”.
The game was a battle of 2 of the truly outstanding goaltenders in our league, MDY’s Shweky and Shaare’s Kassin. As Warriors, we see the strength of Shweky at practices and games. For most, it was the first time we saw Kassin in action and he probably had the quickest glove hand in the league (keep a look out: he should appear on several ESPN highlight reels at end of season with shweky)
The Stars came out strong and took a solid 2-1 lead in the first period. Dejected and tired the Warriors came out into the locker room with their jheads down. After the Captain’s tale the exited the locker room to start the second period with a few goals to take the lead. On shift changes, players were looking for guidance on how to score on Kassin as he was stopping screen shots, deflections, and 2nd and 3rd rebounds with great acrobatics and a supersonic glove.
The third period, a period in which the Warriors have stepped up in the past, gave the coaching staff the opportunity to have all Warrior offenseman and defenseman play in the game despite the close score of 5-2 for the first part of the 3rd period. The game ended with a respectable 7-2 score.
This Tuesday night the HALB lions travel to the WarriorDome with a similar record as the Warriors – should be a great game!
